I think this year was one of my favorite Easters so far. I’ve struggled in the past knowing how to keep the magic of the holiday for the kids, while still keeping the focus on our Savior and His atonement and the resurrection. I think we accomplished both this year(or at least I hope so.)
Dyeing Easter Eggs
Egg Hunting
They were lucky enough to participate in 4 egg hunts this year. For the one in our yard, they each got a certain color of egg. They were filled with coupons(Dinner of my choice, stay up 30 min past bedtime, play wii, watch show, mom does my job for the day etc. ) The kids loved these and I loved not giving them candy :)
My parents do one each year as well, and it was probably their fav. egg hunt. They got spoiled!
Easter Sunday
We got the kids new church clothes and I made them a few new church activities.
Easter Baskets
What I loved about our Easter this year I didn’t take pictures of. We tried to do at least one Christ centered activity a day for the week of Easter.
Here they are(so I can remember for next year :)
- For scripture study one night we brought the kids to their room where there were buckets of warm water. We learned about Christ washing His apostles feet while the kids soaked their feet, and then Mike and I massaged and lotioned them. It was humbling to share this amazing story and serve our kids in this way! This simple thing brought the spirit into our home. After we were done Kyson started rubbing my feet too… he’s such a sweet kid.
- For bedtime snack we ate food that Christ would have eaten- grape juice, unleavened bread, honey, grapes, cucumbers, and olives. We talked about the last supper and the importance of the sacrament.
- We watched “He is Risen.”
- We made Paper plate tombs and focused on Christ coming from the tomb, conquering death.
- We told the story of Easter in Eggs. (12 eggs have objects in them that represent different parts of the Easter story)
- We made Resurrection Rolls. Simply by rolling big marshmallows in butter then cinnamon and sugar then wrapping them with dough(I used Rhodes.) When baked it hollows out the middle of the roll so that it looks like an empty tomb.
- Mike and I both bore testimony of Christ and that He truly does live.
It was a great way to learn more about our savior and bear testimony of Him.
